FRENCH CHIVES are believed to be native to both China and Europe, with origins throughout the Balkans, Siberia, and China dating back to 3,000 BCE. Marco Polo is often credited with spreading Chives throughout Europe after his travels in the East. Chives are a perennial herb and a good source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, and sulfur. They also contain high amounts of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and B vitamins. Chives have been used medicinally for thousands of years, offering a mild stimulant effect and antiseptic, antibacterial, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. They have historically been used to treat sore throats and are said to be beneficial for digestion and circulation.
