Our Story

Over three decades ago, in the lush jungles of Hawaii, I stumbled upon an article that highlighted the wonders of soybean oil candles in the USA. This moment would shape my journey in ways I could never have imagined. At that time, my father, Rob, and his wife, Ann, were pioneers in the candle manufacturing industry, leading Candle Creations on the east coast of the USA in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Intrigued by the potential of soy candles, Rob dedicated himself to researching this emerging industry, aiming to enhance their candle range. After extensive exploration and testing, he found a reliable soybean oil supplier, which led to the creation of a premium product that quickly gained popularity.

During this period, Rob collaborated with the soy supplier to develop a soy oil wax suitable for skin application. This innovative partnership leveraged the natural richness of Vitamin E and Lecithin in soybean oil, resulting in a candle that not only burned beautifully but also provided a warm, smooth, and creamy texture when applied to the skin—a distinctive quality that set them apart. Careful attention was also given to scent dispersion efficiency, ensuring an inviting fragrance filled the air.

More than fifteen years ago, I returned to South Africa and joined forces with my partner, Nicole. Inspired by the success and values instilled by Rob and Ann, we founded SoyLites in 2007. Starting in a small room, SoyLites has grown into a market leader in soy candles and innovative body products, thanks to our incredible, dedicated team.

Our commitment to quality and innovation has allowed us to expand beyond soy candles. Today, SoyLites is a trailblazer, offering a diverse range of aromatherapy products, massage soy candles, balms, and pioneering items like our Luxury Beauty Oil, Hydrosols, and Rainbow Rocks—our unique soy wax crayons, a first in South Africa.

As we continue to lead the market with the widest range of locally produced soy candles, our growth strategy focuses on diversification, establishing a local retail presence, and maintaining a global footprint. We source the finest raw soy materials and remain at the forefront of developments in the natural candle industry. Our heart, however, remains rooted in our African heritage, reflected in our locally sourced packaging materials, glass and metal containers, essential oils, and other components.
