How We Make Our Soy Candles

SoyLites has been making soy candles in South Africa since 2007.
Our candles are hand-poured, combining natural soy wax with carefully blended aromatic oils to create fragrance, atmosphere and a warm, nourishing oil that can also be used on the skin.
It’s a simple idea, but one we’ve spent nearly two decades refining—from the quality and performance of the wax to the fragrance blends, ingredients and way each product feels in everyday use.
Our products are proudly made in South Africa, vegan-friendly and created with a commitment to thoughtfully chosen ingredients, craftsmanship and continual innovation.
A candle should smell beautiful. Burn beautifully. And, in true SoyLites fashion, perhaps do a little more than you expected.
Why soy wax?
At the heart of our Signature Candles is a carefully developed vegetable soy wax blend.
We choose soy wax because it gives us the qualities that matter to the SoyLites experience: a beautiful fragrance release, a smooth melt pool, and a warm oil that can also be used on the skin.
Our formulation includes naturally occurring Vitamin E and Lecithin, helping give the melted wax its nourishing, moisturising feel.
It is also renewable, biodegradable and easy to clean with warm water and mild soap — part of the reason soy wax has remained central to what we make.
Fragrance, with purpose
Fragrance is central to the SoyLites experience.
Our blends are created to do more than simply make a room smell good. Each one combines aromatic oils chosen for the character, atmosphere and feeling they bring — from calming and grounding to bright, fresh or energising.
That’s why many of our blends carry names such as Serenity, Clarity, Gratitude, Harmony and Energise. The fragrance and the feeling are intended to work together.
It’s also where some of the storytelling we spoke about can begin to live naturally: not as long explanations, but as small invitations into a mood, a moment or a ritual.
Made in South Africa
Each SoyLites candle is hand-poured in South Africa, with care given to the quality, fragrance and performance of the finished product.
Nearly two decades of making, testing and refining have taught us that consistency matters — but so does curiosity. We continue to explore new blends, formats and ideas while holding onto the hands-on approach that has been part of SoyLites from the beginning.
We also support local suppliers wherever possible and remain proudly South African in both where we come from and where we make.
